I'm not getting a fish any time soon, but I want to know for in the future, is a 30 gallon aquarium good for a single goldfish?

Yes! A 30 gallon aquarium is great for a goldfish. It will give them lots of swimming room.

edit: oop I guess I was wrong I thought 20 gallons was the minimum my mistake

I think 40G is the minimum, they are also social animals so you will need at least 2 :)

I hear it depends on the type of goldfish, but yes! A betta may be very happy in that to-maybe African Dwarf Frogs? (As you can tell, I used to want to have ahuge community tank and well.... cant happen now).

A 20 gallon is the minimum for ONE fancy goldfish. 40 gallons is much better, 75 for two fancies is ideal. If you want the feeder fish, which are usually comet gold fish, you need a pond. Or 75+ gallons for one. 100+ for one or two still isn’t really ideal. Comets get HUGE. I suggest one, or even two, very good canister filters. Goldfish are extremely messy. Sinking pellets are best, goldfish are known to gulp too much air with flakes.

From what I’ve gotten a lot of people don’t recommend using tanks at all for goldfish—many opt to have a pond for them, especially if you want to keep them in large groups. Most adult goldfish get to be around 9-12” long if I’m remembering correctly.

Goldfish are also social fish and must be kept in groups as stated.

A 30g may work for now, but definitely plan on upgrading. Have you considered other types of fish? You can definitely have a nice community tank in a 30g.

I'd consider pretty much any fish, like I said, it's not happening for a while, and might not even happen at all, I just think that I'd like to have fish as my next pet, would angel fish work? I don't know a lot about them, or I'd appreciate suggestions

You may want to check out Fishlore--they have a ton of people on there who have been in the aquarium fancy for several decades. I think they'd be more qualified to talk about fish stock than any of us on here haha. From what I remember, though, I believe angelfish prefer taller tanks so if you have a 30g long that may not work. Maybe look into zebra fish or tetras? I think they do pretty well in tanks that size.

Edit: I think I was thinking of something else, I don't believe angelfish require a lot of height. However, they are saltwater fish, and saltwater tanks tend to require a lot more time and effort than a freshwater since there are so many more parameters to keep track of.

29 gallons is the BARE minimum for 2 goldfish. You need to get at least 2 as they are very social and can die easily without a friend. Hope this helps

I think 40 is good for 2 fancy goldfish. Or 55.

Maybe long term-ish even. But I wouldn’t think for life. However I’m not sure exactly when you’d need to upgrade. Won’t their growth get stunted if you don’t upgrade them by a certain length?
