I have had my axolotl for 1 year, and he was 7 inches long when I got him from a pet store that had 4 of them in a tank less than 10 gallons (they said that the 2 biggest had been sold, so there had previously been 6 in there) He only grew to 8 inches long. One of his gills had lost it’s frills, and one of his legs had been bitten off. About a month after getting him, he started showing signs of having anchor worm, so he was taken to the vet, and treated. He is very tiny, and he only has half on one of his legs. He is a very happy guy, but I was wondering why he is like this. Sorry for the long post.

I know pretty much nothing about axolotls (except that they are adorable!) But my guess is that he is like this from bad genetics and breeding? Like because he is from a pet store he is just very inbred, leading to health problems?

He is full grown, and he lives in a 15 gallon tank
