So when I lost Meggie yesterday, I can’t really explain the pain and sorrow that I felt but it was overwhelming. I know I need to get another animal because she was my emotional support animal. What do I do now that she’s gone? Being without her for not even two days has been awful.

I'm so sorry for your loss of Maggie! Losing a pet is always so hard, especially when they were your everything. If you need another animal for emotional support, a dog would probably be best. I have seen people have emotional support cats, dogs, pigs, etc. Do you think you would be emotionally ok after this loss to get another pup?

I would love to get another dog, eventually. I have to grief over Meggie but I will probably get another dog if I can.

I’m so sorry. When I lost my dog Lucy I was in denial of her passing for two years. I barely cried at all in those two years. But one day it just hit me and I was sobbing every single night for her. It’s really tough. If you wanted an emotional support animal, I agree that a dog is best. But there are a lot of other animals you could get for emotional support it just depends on the person, there are bunnies, rats, mice, birds, etc. again I’m sorry for your loss.

I’m thinking like a week MINIMUM. I know that sounds super insensitive but I’m not saying I’ll be okay in a week, I just think I’ll be able to adopt an animal in that time or further in the future.

Maybe you can start looking around at shelters website and other places to adopt? Maybe that way once you are ready you already have an idea of a certain pup you think might be good for you?

You deal with it your way. Wether it be eating a lot of icecream, crying, or adopting. Everyone suffers through loss differently.

Everyone deals with loss differently. Don't feel like you need to rush out and get another pet right away- losing a pet is hard, and it is normal to feel sad, lost, and emotional. Giving yourself time to feel and work through these things can be helpful. On the other hand, some people prefer to bring home a new pet fairly soon, and if that is you, that's ok too.

I am sorry for you. I understand what a horror it is to lose your beloved pet. Moreover, what a terrible emptiness torments later. The most important thing is not to blame yourself for anything.
