Hi I would like to be interviewed, I have a gerbil at the moment but plan on getting a hamster in the next few months!

Welcome to another HH  Interview! Today we have Redpeaches&tae17 with us!

They were wonderful and took the time to answer my questions. Today they will talk about their hamster!

So let's get started.

 

1 Why did you want to be interviewed?

‘’Because being interviewed is very fun and entertaining! People say I like the spotlight, but stuff like this I am fond of - not sure if that's quite true haha (that I am always in the spotlight).’’

 

 

2. Can you give us a bit of backstory on your hamster? 

‘ ‘Sure! Tae is a white black eyed short haired Syrian Hamster. She is from poppy bee hamstery and lives in an enriched 122 gallon (1,100 sq. inches)’’

 

 

3. What do you like most about having hamsters?

‘’They are great friends and listen to you. Also they are fun to watch and are adorable!’’

 

 

4. What would you say to new hamster owners.

‘’Do proper research!’’

 

 

5. Did you have any regrets in your hamster journey?

‘’Ofcourse! Like lots of hamster owners, my first hamster Ace, (who passed in may 2021 sadly). was housed in a 300 sq. inch cage. In the beginning I woke him up too much in the day and held him wrong. I learned lots from Victoria Raechel and HH! Sadly as I learned more, I tried to scatter feed and make toys and treats - but was yelled at and shamed by my family. It took lots of bargaining before I tried to get Ace a bigger cage - but I found a bin cage with 600 sq. inches - I was going to buy it for his birthday - but he passed 2 weeks before his birthday. I wish he got a better life, but I hope he still loved me...’’

 

 

6. What do you think is the most important thing for a hamster.

‘’Proper cage, toys, diet, enrichment, bedding amount...

Lots of things, ofcourse a big cage is important - but its also what goes in it.’’

 

 

7. If you could choose one word to describe hamsters, what would it be?

‘’Mischevious.’’

 

 

8. How would you tell someone their care is inadequate?

If you evaluate the cage...You might see unsafe treats, or a small cage, only 2 inches of bedding, No toys , Being woken up to early, Handled roughly... Many things.’’

 

 

9.  Do you think anything should be changed in the hamster community?

‘’Lots.

Stuff made specifically for hamsters that is not safe, should either:

A. Be evaluated and made safe.

Or B. Taken out of stock and not sold anymore.’’

 

 

10. What are your pro's and cons for hamsters?

Pros: They are cute, soft, rewarding and they are good friends

Cons: Can be expensive, they get up late, they escape easily and don’t live very long.
