Hi! Thanks for all this information!

I think guinea pig noises might disturbe others at my house, but that’s the only thing. Anyways thanks for all this information it’s really helpful! And the people at my house might not like guinea pigs as pets since not many people have them! But they sure are adorable.

Of course! I do want to mention, you may be surprised by how many people do own guinea pigs! They are really cute, and I which I had taken better care of mine when I had them. Good luck!!

In my experience, Chinchillas also rarely allow themselves to be held or cuddled. They may be soft, but they're independent and fragile.

And to add to what Tax said about temperature, serious Chin owners often go so far as to have backup generators for their home to keep their animals cool in the event of a power outage- their temperature needs are that important.

And yes, they're messy. They poop every where, spread their hay all about, and flip chinchilla dust all over. It's just what they do.

The lifespan is also a big concern. Once you graduate from college, which one of you would take both chinchillas? Separating bonded chins would be cruel. How are you going to provide for them, including a home that can be kept adequately cool with a backup cooling source? Many landlords do not allow pets at all, those that do can be prohibitively expensive, and it can be very difficult to find a job, let alone one with enough pay to support an expensive pet, right out of school.

hey i own i chinchilla they are a lot of work and need at LEAST 1 hour of play time. chinchillas are not very cuddly and overheat quickly so you should not hold them to much. they also need large cages such as the 2 unit critter nation cage. you also need lots of enrichment. cardboard is also not safe. you need to have lots of toys on hand(they deystroy them fast). you also need lots of ledges witch can cost over $100 dollars. they also NEED a cage mate.(with some exeptions). you also can not have plastic as it is not safe and can rip up there organs if ate. (even if you chinchilla doesnt chew they can always snap and eat a lot so only use it during play time) you should feed them two table spoons of pellets each day. they can not each seeds or any fruits or vegtibles. exept for carrots. its is not recomended to feed them store bought treats so you should stick to rose hips, goji berrys, oats ect. you also should keep there tempture under 70 degrees. they also  poop around 200 times a day and need daliy spot cleans and weekly feece/bedding changes.(They can NOT have paper bedding). you also need tiles to cool them off in there cage. i use a whole level of my chinchillas cage for tile.
