Hello!

I am devastated by my previous hammy's death because it was all my fault for not thinking ahead.

So my hamster Apple lived in a IKEA Detolf and lived as a queen would. But she didn't have a lid.

One day on the 15th of January I came home from school and heard a rustle and ignored it. I heard it again and it was coming from the room where Apple lives. I decided to go and investigate. I crept in on tiptoes and saw a cat that had come in through my mum's bedroom window. It belonged to our neighbours across the street and I was frantically searching for my hamster and I later found out the cat had eaten Apple. I know this would not have happened if I had made a lid, yet I had not seen any risks. I am currently bawling my eyes out as I remember the happy moments we spent together. I will never find a hamster a good- natured as you were. Slide down the rainbow and land in a pool of sunflower seeds. RIP little hammy, I will always look out for you.

I'm sorry for your loss! That's so tragic. :crybuckets: :rainbow:

Things happen, so if you decide to put a new hamster in that cage, definitely use a lid. But don't be mad at yourself, because everybody makes mistakes.

It is devastating to lose a pet, I’m so sorry for your loss!  Please don’t feel bad about not having a lid. Life is full of lessons and consider it a lesson learned.  I have caught myself forgetting to close the lid on my hammy’s cage, so I had to figure out a system so I don’t forget to close it.  You had an awesome pet because she had an awesome owner, you!

So sorry. I know how much it hurts, I accidentally left my hamsters cage open and it escaped outside, I never saw her again. I cried for days.
