So I went to the exotic expo today looking at hamsters. It was my idea to bring a nice hamster home and they had some lovely syrian breeders there with friendly and beautiful hamsters but just none of them caught my fancy however I got into contact with a great local breeder.

 

Then I saw a baby axolotl that took my heart away but knew my fifty five gallon tank isn't set up and ready for one until after my animal room is finished this spring so despite loving the little guy so much I had to pass him by and not make a purchase when I wasn't prepared for the animal.

 

Just when I thought I might walk away from the expo empty handed then the bug guy showed up like an angel and me being a big bug enthusiast rushed his table to gander over the cute little mantids and talked about ants for a while when a little L4 Chinese Mantis caught my eyes and I knew I just had to take this little one home. So here I was going for a hamster and coming home with a mantis. Eveyone meet my new cute baby Lozai

He's so adorably tiny!! I think mantids are just the coolest bugs!

I have always wanted one and the seller said these guys are one of the good starter mantis to get before investing in the more beautiful but fragile species. I really hope to get a giant Asian mantis and an orchid or ghost mantis next but this little guy is so cool and inquisitive. He hangs upside down from his jar and will look at you even if you make the smallest movement. He almost acts like an owl with that head swivel too.
