Hi, i am new here and have been searching for things to purchase before getting a hamster. So far i have made a list, of course 1st is the cage 😀.
Anyhow, was looking for style of wheel, the hamster i am planning to get is a dwarf or robo. I was looking for silent spinner wheel and was intrested in "Love Hamster Wheel 8 inches" at Amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01M5FLTE7/ref=cm_cr_arp_mb_bdcrb_top?ie=UTF8&th=1&psc=1

Was wondering if anyone had opinions on this wheel or recomend one.
Thank you.

Do think I will have more questions as i want to be prepared and get things for a new furry hamster...

Posts can't be moved or deleted without asking someone in particular to do so, but I don't think it's an issue that it's in the wrong place :).

The wheel seems to be some sort of off-brand of the Silent Spinner, and those are apparently quite good from what I've heard. The size is a little awkard, though. Robos don't need something as big as this(6.5" is more than enough)and if you were thinking to go for an 8" in case you'll get a Syrian in the future, that won't work for a Syrian as most of them need 10" in diameter for a wheel.I would personally get the 6.5" Silent Spinner for half the price since it's a great spinner. I would really recommend trying out a flying saucer as well since the majority of hamsters (especially dwarfs) love those. This one https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001AT62H0/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1535019141&sr=8-2&keywords=hamster+flying+saucer&dpPl=1&dpID=416F1AA4G6L&ref=plSrchis perfect for a dwarf.

I hope this helped a little!
Good luck getting your hammy supplies and finally, a hammy! :) I'll be here if you have more questions!

Thank you, not get a Syrian, but robo or dwarf hamster, not sure if dwarf needed a bigger size.. anyhow, I did read the flying saucers was more of a toy (guess it depends on preference) or not?

Dwarfs(including robos) do perfectly fine with a 6.5" wheel. Flying saucers are considered by most people to be wheels(but more of an optional kind). Many hamsters prefer those over upright wheels but it's always best to provide both or just the classic, upright wheel.

In my opinion 8 inch wheels work great for robos, but could be too small for Russian Dwarfs. I'd recommend 10 inch wheels and above for dwarfs. I've heard of robos running on 11 inch wheel without problems as well. I personally prefer wooden wheels (very quiet and pretty), but I've heard people like Silent Runners and Wodent wheels.

Flying saucers are not good for hamsters because of the unnatural position they have to run in those. At least I wouldn't put one in the cage, but perhaps as a playpen toy it could be usable (imo waste of money).

I agree with this^.  I have a WW Dwarf who is on the smaller side (he weighs 1.5oz) and he has no problem propelling his 9" wheel.  I think he'd be able to do a larger size as well, like a 10", with no problem.  The wheel I have attaches to the wall with hardware and I was able to adjust the tension of the wheel to make it easier or harder to spin.  I actually ended up tightening it quite a bit compared to where it was set from the manufacturer and that helped him be able to slow it down without getting tossed around.

I highly recommend the Silent Runner (note, this is different than the Silent Spinner).  It's a very high quality wheel with lots of nice features, and I've had it for over a month with no sound except his little feet pattering as he runs.  I've heard others say that they had to fix or replace the hardware to get it to run quietly, but I haven't had that personal experience.  Here's a link to the one I bought.  This was the cheapest I saw it marketed and I had nothing but good experiences with their customer service line. (I wouldn't recommend getting the nail trimmer track they sell with it in certain packages.)

The other wheel I thought looked really great when I was looking online was the Wodent Wheel.  You'll find tons of colors and sizes if you google it.  It was a close second for me when I was researching wheels, but I haven't personally used one before.  I also saw cool cork and wood wheels, but my hamster pees in the wheel so that wouldn't work for me!

If I were you, I'd invest in a larger & higher quality wheel: especially since you aren't sure which dwarf species you'll be getting.

I definitely second metalham's recommendation of the 9" Silent Runner. I have one for my Winter White; it spins easily and he can run at full tilt with no sign of an arched back. It's made of very sturdy materials (unlike the Silent Spinner and similar 'knock-off' wheels), has replaceable parts & instructions, and it is very quiet.

Overall a great investment (usually costs a little over $30), and I've heard shining reviews from Roborovski and Winter White/Russian Campbell's owners alike! Anything smaller than 10"/10.5" would definitely not work long-term for a Syrian, though, so you need to be very sure that you are deciding between one of the three dwarf species before you buy :)
