Hi! I am currently in the mist of creating a Harry Potter themed hamster cage in my ikea detolf, and I would like to use a miniature doll cart to be a trolley for the platform 9 and 3/4 section of the cage. I just wanted to make sure that this would be safe in case my hamster chewed on it, since it is not made to be a hamster toy. :) I also just wanted to ask if reptile moss is safe for hamsters? Thank you so much!

The reptile moss should be totally safe, I'd post a link to the specific product you're looking at so that it can be judged individually: but I've never heard of a toxic or dangerous reptile moss  :reading:

As for the trolley, could you post a picture of the item? If it's made of plastic, your ham is very unlikely to chew it: but if it has small parts it would probably have to be a day-time only toy / something that's only in when the cage is being observed. It's unlikely to be dangerous, but I believe caution is key with things like this..

Hope this helps a bit!

The moss and trolley are fine. Just make sure to remove the trolley if you hamster chews on it.

On a unrelated note, could you post a picture of your Harry Potter theme? I would love to see it. :D

Hi! Thank you guys so much! I will totally post a picture of my Harry Potter theme once I get all of the supplies, and set it up! I’m currently trying to upload the photo of the shopping trolley, but I am not quite sure how to attach a photo, so instead, I will just post the link to it! Also, I don’t have any specific brand of moss in mind, I just wanted to make sure that it was generally safe to use in case my hamster were to engest it. :) (Also, sorry, a really random question! I wanted to buy a “snak shak” house for my hamster to serve as “Hagrid’s Hut”, but I saw that it contains pine, and I was wondering if that would be safe, since I know pine\cedar bedding is very bad for almost all rodents that I can think of. Thank you so much again! You guys have been really helpful!

I just came across this post. I have a friend that's not only a super fan of Harry Potter, she's a big fan of my djungarian Coco. I know she would love to see (make that two of us) the results of your effort. Please post when you have a minute. :)
