Hi Everyone,

Over the last year, I've been hard at work on the Ontario Hamster Club. It's a club in the making, but we've made great progress.

https://ontariohamsters.ca/

Our website is still in the making, mostly because my partner is designing a new one for our use. We have several articles already written and awaiting publication. I'd like to invite members who are Ontarians (though I'd also happily accept other Canadians to the group too). We have lunch meetings, bin building and craft days, and I'm currently working on planning and hosting a hamster show.

We mostly meet on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/ontariohamsters/ so I understand not all members may be able to do so. Hopefully once the website is live, we'll have all information up there for those interested. You can also follow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ontariohamsters/

About Us
The Ontario Hamster Club (OHC) was formed in early 2016, in a response to the lack of agreed upon guidelines regarding the care of hamsters in Ontario. Unlike the UK, which is benefited by the National Hamster Council (https://hamsters-uk.org/), most of North America exists without a large governing body.
Ontario Hamster Club operates as a Non-For-Profit (NFP) organization, with any funds raised being put back into the organization, or donated to an animal-related charity. While OHC has not had any shows yet or meet ups, this is certainly a possibility in the future. For now, web content and articles produced by our members are vital to the organization. The main mission of OHC is education about proper care, and an improvement in the quality of hamsters produced.
Mandate

OHC exists to benefit hamsters of all species, and their owners, by providing a cohesive set of guidelines outlining care.

Mission
OHC is a non-profit organization that connects hamster owners, lovers, enthusiasts, and breeders, through shared knowledge, and strives to educate the public on proper care and ethics for hamsters.

Vision
OHC sees a future where hamsters are treated as more than just a child’s first pet. Hamsters are a fantastic pet for any age, but like any animal require specific care. OHC provides a community of like-minded individuals who support each other. Education and support is to be provided to public and members alike to increase the quality of care for all species of hamsters in Ontario, and in Canada. OHC hopes that through its teaching, current and future hamster owners will strive to provide the best possible care for the hamsters.

:)

You make me wish I lived in Ontario. Or even Canada. :) The closest ethical breeder is Zika, but I really prefer you. I've never ever met anyone who lives near me that has hamsters.

Haha, that would be nice! There is a Strong Brew Adopters group you can eventually join once you get your hammy from us. :)

Spoiler

This sounds like a lot of fun, it really makes me wish I lived in Canada near you!
Hopefully more people will take after the OHC and the organizations in the UK and open up more hamster clubs in the US. Preferably near me
