As much as I want this as a win, I have a feeling the prison sentence had more to do with the dogs mistreatment and that they added the hamster mistreatment for shock value.  Its great someone is being punished but I'll feel better when someone is punished for cruelty against hamsters that did not have larger, more "important" animals.  They reason the news story is about the hamster is because its shocking.  If the story was written about mistreating dogs and also, there was a hamster too and it was taken away... not nearly as many people would read it.  So yay, an animal abuser is off the streets but I don't think it had to do with the hamster, unfortunately.
