Was looking up hamster wheel sizes when I cane across this study. It's from 2005, which may be why they use metal wheels, but it seems like it might be a useful resource. Bottom line: Hamsters like bigger wheels better.

This was a great read. Thank you for sharing! This definitely gives me something to think about. I've always had the opinion that as long as an animal seems to be able to run comfortably on a wheel, the wheel is large enough, but this makes me question that a bit. I think it at least brings up the question of whether an 8" comfort wheel or even a 10" CSE are actually appropriately sized for Syrian hamsters.
