Does anyone else feel this is at least SLIGHTLY offensive?

I was looking on craigslist for hamsters that needed homes and I was looking at and add and this is what they put in at the bottom!-

**PS Whether you get a hamster from me or not, do not get a dwarf hamster for a child. Dwarf hamsters ALMOST never make good pets for kids as the Russian and Campbell's dwarf hamsters are territorial of the cage and will bite! Robo dwarf hamsters, the smallest kind, usually do not bite, but are extremely fast and hard to keep a hand on. There are of course exceptions, but that is usually the case. Syrian or "teddy bear" hamsters are the friendliest type of hamsters, which is why I breed this kind.**

If you DON'T believe me look at the add yourself. (Removed) Scroll down to the bottom to see what I mean.

Thats sad that people think that, I would not say "offensive" but they are un educated about hamser behavior and personality and it is unfair to lable all russians mean and say that they will bite all the time. They might of had a bad experiance with a russian, making them feel they are all mean?

I hope someone tells them they have it wrong :I

Edit~ I just red that they breed hamsers, this is awful! Someone really needs to tell her what shes doing, I highly doubt shes an ethical breeder from what shes saying

More edits~ I looked at the page, they know NOTHING about hamsters! They use soft wood shaving by the looks of things, and there descrip of syrains is all wrong *sighs*

I didn't really want to use the word offensive, but I couldn't find a different word to fit/match better at the moment.

(to your edit) I KNOW! I want to get one soooooooooo bad but I live somewhere besides vegas, and just the prices for the hamsters themselves are outrageous, and its a 40$ fee for my parents to drive to vegas California, so I can't take any :( its okay though, I don't have an extra cage right now anyway.

I am a teenager aka child, I own a dwarf Campbell/ww hybrid and his never bitten me, I do think this person who wrote the ad doesn't know what his saying. his probably speaking from his experience and he shouldn't be making it a fact, but that's his problem. I wont stereotype but some Syrians aren't always friendly, just like any other hamster :) it all depends on how they've been handled, tamed etc.

To be honest, I see people giving out this same advice here on this forum all the time :-/

Just scroll through ANY topic asking "What should I get for my first hamster?", and 90% of the replies recommend a Syrian because "dwarfs are nippy", "Syrians are more friendly", "Syrians are slower", "Syrians are easier to tame", "dwarfs are faster and difficult for a child to hold".... and so on.

I just find it odd that when it's posted on Craigslist it's "offensive", but it's what a whole bunch of our members say all the time!

I don't personally agree with this labelling of the species, but you can't deny that it happens here.

You make a good point, but I mean that they saying in their post that you SHOULD NOT get a dwarf just because they're nippy, thats all I find slightly offensive, becase we have a dwarf, and she is the SWEETEST thing.

I agree, I get told that I made a mistake by getting a dwarf hamster as my first pet, I couldnt ask for a better hamster, I adore my hamster so much.

Hi there!

Please note the guideline below:

1.11) Do not post links to other sites with an intention of "shaming" them - For example, you may come across a person selling hamsters on craigslist or other classifieds sites. Even if you do not agree with the living conditions of the hamster, do not post their contact information here just so that members can send them nasty messages.

The Craigslist links have been removed.

Oh, I find this offensive. You were saying that dwarf hamsters never make good children's pet. I have a Robo and she is the sweetest thing ever. Plus, she's never escaped for long.

I don't know about offensive, but they evidently have no idea what they're talking about. I have an RCD hybrid, and she has never bitten me once because i take proper care of her (and she's just a very sweet hamster). They probably kept all of their dwarves in a CritterTrail...
Ping, i know what you mean. I see people doing that all the time on this forum, so I usually go on a rant about how every hamster has it's own personality, and that a lot of the "aggression" in dwarves is caused by mistakes we make. It really annoys me when people stereotype hamster species...
