I decided to use my Canon camera and take a couple of photos of my Chinese hamster Bounmy while he was awake.

It's been a while since I shot photography so the quality isn't great. Also, I knew he wouldn't be up for long since it's the middle of the day, so I wasn't able to play with my settings.

Bounmy has been much more curious and less skittish since I changed his cage layout and added more bedding. For a whole week, I rarely saw him and whenever he was out of hiding, he would bolt as soon as I got close to his cage.

You can see here that he's still a little shy, but he's honestly a sweetheart! The last photo shown here is actually the first photo that happened, which is when I caught him digging around behind his wheel.  :laughing:

 

Fun fact: Bounmy means "to have happiness" in Lao.  :)

I can never forgive myself for that night when I got home from being sick in hospital. I checked on him, sleeping soundly in his hut. What a beautiful angel he was. Exhausted, I went to sleep without clipping the lid shut, and he was able to escape that night, permanently.  He found his way into the wall of my complex, which was laced with pesticide. He was everything to me, and I have been non-stop crying for my boy who I feel is gone because of me....the feeling of guilt is overwhelming. I feel as if I've killed my own son.The acknowledgement of my great loss is even more devastating...I am so sorry.... I have no more tears, no more words. He will not come back.

 

Waffles is gone, but his memory is still alive. This is just part of the grieving process for me.  So I hope anybody looking here can admire what a perfect, sweet, beautiful boy he was. He truly was extremely special to me, and I don't think I will ever have another like him. Although the waves of guilt, remorse and sadness I feel for him seems never ending, it's important for me to come to terms with this loss and accept that my mistake costed his life, but that there is nothing I can do but move on and learn self forgiveness for something I will regret forever.

To the very last picture I ever took of Waffles before he was gone.  He was so adorable that day, poking his head out from his little melon hut.  I had just cleaned and organized his cage.

 

 

 

 

I hope you all like these pictures. I cherish them, and have many printed and developed in his memory. This has really been helpful for me.
