Meet Maple! ;D We got her two days ago, on the 20th. She's a three year old unidentified breed (any help with that?) and...yeah.

Facebook makes every picture terrible quality ALKSDJAKLSJFLAKJFDLKAJKSDJLAKSJDALKS;FLKDSFK;ASFLAS. /cries

The family who gave her to us had gotten two dogs from a relative, but they only wanted one, so they asked my friend if anyone wanted a free dog (shots+spayed+groomed for FREE? don't mind if I do!) and coincidentally my family had been looking for a dog since the start of the summer to add to the family, so we got her :hyper:
This is my first dog so hopefully I don't mess up too badly (not like with my first hamster LOL).

D'awww. Maple's ears are super cute! :lovestruck:

*Headtilt* Did a quick google search on medium sized dogs, and the closest I could match is a breed called Kooikerhondje (no clue how to pronounce). The ears are almost exactly alike.

She is GORGEOUS Plushie!!! :lovestruck: What an adorable little dog, and it sounds like it's a win-win situation for both of you!

As far as messing up goes, no one is perfect. ;) I made my share fair of mistakes with my first dog, but we both survived somehow. lol. The biggest advice I can give is to keep your dog on a leash at all times, and if it's an indoor dog, be sure it doesn't run out of the house. The stories of dogs getting out/lost/hit are beyond staggering, so if you can microchip, that would be even better.

Have fun with her! :D

Thank you, guys! I'll pass on the nice messages to her LOL.

Rhapsody: Yeah, I also think she's part Kooiker (it's pronounced koy-ker-hund-ja I think)! I'm amazed you could find it on the Internet, I had to eventually consult my friend's dog breed book because apparently they're pretty uncommon in the US/UK/Canada :P She's probably a mix of something else, since her color isn't common in Kooikerhondjes. But yes, the ears are very similar, she even has the black 'earrings' Kooikers have. Guess I'll have to ask the vet when we go for a checkup. :P

HH: Thank you for the tips, they certainly are very true--I have a friend whose dog is an escape artist, but thankfully he knows his way home and he literally does look both ways before crossing the street  Gladly Maple's pretty laid back and won't run out if the fence is accidentally left open, as far as I've known, but I'll keep on my toes of course :)

Hehe, that's why I'm a reference librarian. But yeah, I never knew that such a gorgeous breed of dog existed either, but those unique ears really helped narrow the possibilities down.

I'm so jealous - you two are going to have tons of fun!
