You say don't bathe them in water but my vet recommended doing so because she's had an allergic reaction and scratched her belly sore. I was told to give her baths in oat wash or something else that would be mild for her tummy.

Was your hamster a syrian? It kind of sounds like she had wet tail or perhaps was very old and could no longer groom herself. Is it cold where you are and was the room where your hammys cage cold? If so hibernating is a possibility but it is not likely. I don't think you should worry that it was your fault as it doesn't sound like it was. I am sorry about your hamster. <3

Isn't it cedar that causes the problems in hamsters, not the pine?
I read pine and aspen are the only beding that is ok but the cedar is the one with the toxic fumes and oils.

Both cedar and pine have the phenols in them. The pine less so then the cedar, but it's still there.

Hi i wonder if i change the water regularly every two days??Is it ok?? For example on monday i feed the hamster and change its water bottle, tuesday take out any stale food and add in food(No change of water)
wednesday feed and change water, thursday feed and so on.. Is it ok?? I done this because i see no point in changing the water daily and every two days is so much better

Really stupid question, I'm sure it's in my skull somewhere, but are aquariums safe for hamster use?

Yeeees! So long as they are big enough. :D The minimum recommended size is a 20 gallon long. You can google for the measurements.

Is it okay if I use softwood bedding? It says it does not contain pine or cedar. I used to use care fresh but it was so expensive and this softwood bedding feels softer.

Cedar and pine are a type of soft wood, they are very common but there are other types of softwoods. All softwoods contain phenols that harm rodents. So no it is not safe for your hamster try aspen shavings instead or any other hardwood shavings.
