1) Congratulations, Cricket for being voted Hamster of the Month (July)! The competition was intense this month!! How are you feeling now?
I am feeling very exhilarated and thankful! It was a tight race, and I only won by a hamster’s tail!
Tell me more about how you became LunarFlame’s pet.
Well, I had been sleeping in my cage one day, all by myself, when I heard some voices. I got a bit excited that it may be my brothers and sisters returning, but instead, I saw three humans and then, the roof of my home was removed. A hairless paw slowly made its way into my cage and I must admit, it was love at first sniff. I promptly hopped into this paw, as it was warm, and smelled lovely. Then next thing I knew though, I was put into some kind of dark box. I had thought I had been tricked, but within a few minutes, I was released into a large bin that looked like a hamster mansion!
What kind of bond/friendship do you share with LunarFlame? And how would you describe your personality?

Lunar and I are best buddies, although she can also take on the role of my manager, per se. She works hard at managing the Ham-Cam. As for my personality, I would say that I have a rough exterior, but inside, I’m a big creampuff! Many people make the mistake of assuming I bite, because I am a dwarf hamster, but I actually love humans. Humans have treated me well since birth, I have no reason to bite them. I’d much rather nibble on the sunflower seeds that they have to offer me. When it is hot, I don’t like to exercise, which worries Lunar sometimes because she doesn’t want me to get fat. I have no issue with being chubby though.
What do your home look like?

As I mentioned above, my home is a mansion! Lunar spoils me. My home consists of two large bins, connected by tubes. I have an upstairs and a downstairs. Lunar likes to co-ordinate the colors, so I have a pink level and a purple level. I have heard her speak of changing one of the levels to be more “masculine,” but I really don’t mind the pink and purple. I am just happy to have such a wonderful home with lots of toys.
What are your favourite activities?
Wow, where do I begin? Sleep would have to be my number one activity. I also really enjoy the company of Lunar though. I look forward to be held, and will always jump right into her hand if given the opportunity. I also love playing in my playpen. When I’m in my cage though, I star on the Ham-Cam (http://lunarflame.camstreams.com). How many hamsters have the opportunity to be famous? It’s like Big Brother- Hamster Style!
Let me ask you something which all humans are curious about - Do hamsters dream? Have you ever had a sweet dream (of sunflower seeds and stuff?)
I often dream of a land that resembles a big food dish. I love food. Seeds, nuts, greens, and of course, things that I am not supposed to have, like carrots and berries! When I don’t dream of food (which is rarely), I dream of my brothers and sisters. I often wonder how they are and where they live.

Here’s the exclusive interview with Munchkin!
Hi Munchkin, congratulations for winning hamster of the month. You must be feeling hamtastic!
Thank you so much! I’m actually really surprised that I won. I just know that my human voted for someone else. Humph, the traitor. How dare she think that someone else is cuter than me.
Tell us more about yourself.
Well, I’m a spunky little Russian Campbell who is always ready for playtime with my human. Unfortunately, I’m a real klutz too - I’m always tipping over. You see, I was born with a neurological tic that makes me wobble a lot when I try to walk. I can’t control it, and it gets really bad sometimes. But I certainly don’t let that stop me from living life to the fullest!
My earliest memory is of being put into a small cage with my sister, Nikki. There were a lot of bright lights and loud noises. It was really scary! All of a sudden, this huge paw slowly descended into our midst. It belonged to a female human, and we could tell right away that she was really nice. But we could also smell that she had been playing with those cheeky little robos in the cage next door. So Nikki and I tried our best to be as cute and friendly as possible, and I also pretended that I could walk just fine. Well, our efforts worked! We were soon scooped from our cage and placed into a little cardboard box. After a while, the human opened the box, and we were plopped into a nice roomy house with really soft and comfy bedding. Nikki and I were so happy that we were no longer in The Scary Place.
Unfortunately, my human caught me wobbling around the next day. I was really scared that she would take me back to The Scary Place because she now knew that I wasn’t perfect. Instead, she took me to see four different humans. I think that my human was trying to help me, but I thought that these other humans were very mean. They grabbed me by the scruff, shined bright lights into my poor eyes and ears, made me try to walk on a cold metal table, and one of them even dropped me. The whole experience was NOT fun at all. And afterwards, my human made me drink some yucky stuff - I think it was supposed to make me stop wobbling, but it didn’t work. I thought my human wouldn’t like me anymore because my wobbliness couldn’t be fixed. But lucky for me, she still loves me a whole lot and now I know that with her will always be my forever home.
Who are your best friends?

Until recently, my sister Nikki was my best friend in the whole world. She was really nice to me, and we would snuggle together whenever we slept. But Nikki started to ignore me, so I got really mad and bit her tail. Now I don’t live with her any more and I get a little lonely sometimes. But my human, Rhapsody, makes it all better. She always plays with me the longest, and her paws are very gentle. She talks to me a lot too. I don’t always understand what she is saying, but I find the sound of her voice to be very soothing. She does worry about me a lot though. My wobbliness used to make my human really scared because she would think that I was really sick. Now she’s not as worried anymore, but she still frequently checks up on me to make sure that I’m doing okay. On my really bad days, she will cradle me in her paws and sing to me too. It is always the same tune - she calls me “pretty baby” and sings of how much she loves me.
What are your likes and dislikes?
I don’t like being alone, so I LOVE playtime with my human! Since I have so much trouble with my wheel (I wobble so much that sometimes I can’t stay on it), she makes me a really nice obstacle course. There are hills and tunnels, so it is a great way for me to get my exercise. I also really like my bedding - it makes digging around my house so much fun! However, I really dislike my new neighbors. They are teeny little midgets (I think they are robos) and they are always scurrying around. My human better not spend more time playing with them than with me!
What are your fave foods?
I absolutely adore dandelion greens and broccoli stems. I’d eat them every day if my human would let me. Sunflower seeds, cucumber, and fresh plain yogurt are yummy too.
Do you have any special talent? Oh yes, I do have an awesome talent! I have perfected the art of begging. All I have to do is tilt my head just so and look as pitiful as possible. My human simply cannot resist! It is a great way to get extra playtime and yummy treats.

1) Congratulations, Miss Izzie Behr, for winning “Hamster of the Month”! Tell us about your life story.
Oh, wow, thank you. It’s such an honour to win over all those gorgeous hamsters.
As for my life story, I shall fill you in, but be prepared, it is not all peachy. Let’s start from the beginning… I don’t remember much of my early days, but I remember having lots of siblings that I had to fight over to get my mom’s milk. My sisters and I were separated from our mother and brothers one day and we ended up in this big glass box that these beings would peer in at us. We played at night and slept during the day. This one day, as usual, I was up before all my sisters and I was playing by myself when this being began watching me. I showed off a bit for her and ran about the front glass pressing my paws against it trying to push it down. I even tried to get my sisters to help me and ran into the hut where they were sleeping and tried to wake them by shaking the hut, but they just wouldn’t get up. So I came back out and decided I needed a grooming, and did so and styled my hair in a cute mohawk. Soon the being was accompanied by another being and then suddenly a massive claw came in and tried to capture me. I tried to run away, but it was too clever and it captured me, and the next thing I know, I’m in this tiny box. There was a bunch of movement going on and lots of different sounds and smells outside this box. I kept sticking my nose out the holes to get a better idea of what was going on. Soon I was introduced to my new home and my first and favourite treadmill of all time.
Just a few days later my left eye began to bother me. The being seemed to be quite worried, and as the night went on my eye bothered me more and I then couldn’t see out of it. The being seemed quite upset and the next morning she came in and put me back in that small box. After some movement and weird sounds and smells, the box opened and a bunch of beings were peering in at me. I spent a couple weeks in another home without my treadmill. I was pretty bummed out to not have my treadmill, but I was busy healing from this weird thing that was going on with my eye. I think my eye ended up falling out, but I’m fine now. I didn’t care for a bunch of my hair falling out around the eye though, as my mohawk didn’t quite work as well. Soon that being returned and I ended up back in that tiny box again. After more movement and weird sounds and smells I met up with my treadmill again. I was really happy to see it and went for a run. For a while, I was afraid of the being when she’d come visit me, but as time went on, I grew to trust her and I now enjoy seeing her as her presence usually means a yummy treat for me.
2) What are your likes and dislikes?
Well, my first and foremost like would be my treadmill. I just love that thing to pieces. I enjoy running marathons each night in it. I also like those yummy yoghurt drops my being brings me, as they’re quite yummy. I also like the various foods my being brings me. I really do love food. I enjoy taking all my food out of the pit my being puts them in and moving them over to my treat corner that’s under my waterspout. I leave the icky brownish black things in the food pit though. I don’t know what the being is thinking trying to feed me those, as they are just icky. The rest of my food is very yummy though. I also enjoy styling my hair into cute mohawks.
3) Describe your ideal, perfect day (or rather, night).
I would get up at my usual time of 7pm and check the food pit to see if I missed anything earlier. If so, I take the yummy pieces out and put them in my food corner. I then groom myself. This is an intensive project as I have very fluffy, long hair and I must make sure every speck of it is clean and pretty. After which I have a nibble or two on some yummy food. A little sip of water, and then I’m off for a run on my treadmill. At some point the being will come and open my box and she’ll lift me out and give me a yoghurt drop. I’ll sit there and nibble it until I’m done and then I just leave it there and go explore. On an ideal day, the being will place the yoghurt drop into my food pit so I can enjoy it some more later. On an ideal day I will also have a run in that bubble my being puts me in at times as it’s fun to run about in it. Also on an ideal day I would also get a treat or two of some fresh goodness. Basically, a lot of eating and running is my ideal day, which is much like any day. I enjoy my life in my safe box with my treadmill and endless supply of yummy foods coming in.
4) Tell us more about your owner, dogma.
I assume you are speaking of my being. She is pretty cool. I only see her a bit each day when she comes and visits me as I’m out in a room all alone like I like it, however sometimes she brings my box to her room and I sometimes hear these other creatures stirring in there. Also, when I call out, my being sometimes responds with weird noises. She’s a strange one, but I adore her and I love her even more when she gives me yummy treats.
5) Is there anything else you want to tell HH?

Well… I guess I’d just like to say thank you for being there for my being through tough times and I hope you enjoy your little hamsters like my being enjoys me. ![]()
Well, I’m off to run another marathon on my treadmill, take care. *goes off for a run*

1) Hello Chipmunk, you have won Hamster Hideout’s first ‘Hamster of the Month’ Contest! How are you feeling now?
Well, I must say, it is pretty unexpected. I’m surprised the judges went for an old guy like me! Especially since there were so many others! It truly is an honor. My roommate is a little jealous, but he’ll get over it. I’m not exactly sure what HH is, I think it is some sort of entertainment place the giant creature goes to. Nevertheless, I am quite excited!
2) Tell us more about yourself
Okay! I’m a little over a year old. I currently live in a large box with clear, shiny walls. I have a pretty easy life! I love to sleep, especially under my wheel. There is another hamster who lives with me, a little white fellow. He’s a little rowdy, and secretly, I think he’s not too bright. But don’t tell him that! We get along fairly well, but he can get a little bossy sometimes, and takes all the sunflower seeds for himself, the brat. I have had many happy times in my life, but there was a sad time once. I used to have an old roommate, who was very kind, always listened to me. But there was something wrong with him. He often sneezed and coughed. One day, I woke up to check on him. I went over to see him, but for some reason he wouldn’t wake up. I tried to move him, but he wouldn’t. The human came, and said some words to him, but he still wouldn’t move. I was so confused. The human let out a strange noise, it sounded so sad. She took him out of my home. I never saw him again. The human stayed in it’s room that day, making the same noise, yelling, shreiking. I lived all alone for weeks. I got cold, nobody to huddle with. It was too quiet, too lonely. Then, a young hamster was plopped into my home, and I have lived with him even since. He has a wee bit of an attitude, but he is quite entertaining!
3) Tell us more about your owner, Chippy
My owner…? Oh! You mean the big creature who feeds us. I don’t belong to anybody! I am an individual!
Humph. Well, it is a large animal, and is quite honestly the weirdest thing I have EVER seen. It is huge, and has no hair! And these strange paws with no claws and long spindly things.
Bizarre, eh? I think it is female, but I’m not sure. It is the one who gave me my name, and is a fairly kind creature. What are they called? Oh right, humans. Once or twice a day, it opens the ceiling and pours in food! I was terrified the first time. How would you like it if the roof to your house was removed by a giant creature? But now, it is my favorite time of the day. It also likes to watch us sleep, which is completely unnerving. Waking to see giant eyes staring at you? Eeek. Sometimes, it takes me out, and lets me run around it’s home. It strokes my fur, which feels sooo good. It lives with a family who likes to pet me, although I’m not very fond of the small one. It squeezes me a bit too hard.
4) What are your hobbies?
Well, sleeping, mostly. I love when the human gives us this soft, paper material to shred. It makes everything so comfy.
My wheel is my favorite toy. There are two of them in my home, but my roommate claims the blue one and I get the purple. I don’t know what blue and purple are, but that’s what the human says they are. It calls them “colors”. What in the world are colors? Anyway, whenever I’m bored, I go for a long jog. I also like to have the other hamster groom me, especially on that spot on my neck where I can’t reach. When the human appears, I go over to the glass to see it. I love to see it move around, it is so cute to watch! I feel sorry that it is stuck in that home of it’s when I get this big fancy home, but I guess it doesn’t mind. I’m big on climbing things, especially that strange plastic block. It has many holes, and changes often. I think the human changes it into different shapes. I wonder how. Back in my old home, a smaller cage with wires on the side, I would always climb the wires to get to the upper levels instead of taking the tubes. This always made the human shake her head for some reason. But there are no wires in my new home, so I just climb my toys.
5) What are your favorite foods?
Favorite? Hmm, there are so many! I love it when I am fed these strange seeds. They taste like grain, and somehow, they snap and crackle in my cheeks! I think they are called “rice crisples” or something. I also occasionally get this large biscuit. It is shaped like a bone, and is very crunchy! I use it to grind down my teeth when they get too long. From my regular food bowl, I love the peanuts and sunflower seeds, though the human often takes most of them for herself. How greedy! I have to be quick to my food, or the other hamster runs over, stuffs the food, and runs off! He should respect his elders, the little punk. My favorite vegetable? Probably carrots. I like the noise they make when I chew them! I also like cucumber for when I am thirsty.
6) Anything else do you want to tell HH-sters?
HH-sters? Hmm…
“Hey human! What are HH-sters?”
“Chippy, stop squeaking, I’m trying to sleep!”
Oh, right. Humans sleep at nighttime. That’s really weird, isn’t it? Well, I’m going to assume HH-sters are more people. You guys listen up good, ya hear?
Make sure to feed us more! That skinflint only fills up our bowl halfway, and takes most the sunflower seeds to herself! Do you humans have no souls?! Also, let us out more! There are such interesting sights in the human world, even if it is all weird. Also, make sure you play with us. Even with a roommate, it gets lonely in here sometimes. And don’t let small humans squeeze us! It makes my eyes bulge out. And please, please, please, don’t wake us up when we are asleep. Do you know how long it takes to make a nest? And to have it all messed up?
Yeesh. Play with us when we are awake, please!
Gosh, all this talking is making me so tired.
I…….think…….I’ll……..close……..my….
*zzzzzzz*
