Hamster of the Month – April 2009 – Izzy

HH: Hi Izzy, congratulations for winning hamster of the month! How are you feeling now?
IZ: Thank you so much! I am extremely excited to have been given this honor! I just cannot seem to stop smiling! Everyone here at HH is very generous, and I am just so grateful for this! All of the other entries were so great, so I am even more honored to have been voted first!

HH: You stay on a farm in a double bin! What’s it like?
IZ: Well, my momma tells me a lot about all of my different brothers and sisters, but I never get to meet any of them. That’s okay, though, because I prefer to stay on my own. Besides, horses and dogs and cats sound big and scary! And if any mice tried to intrude on my home, they would be in for it! But they make my momma happy, so I don’t mind them- she has plenty of time to give us all attention! And when she’s not playing with me, I have lots of room to roam around in my bin cages. I sleep on the top floor, and the bottom one I use to play and bathe in my sand bath. Plus there is a lot of floorspace, so I can stay very fit!

HH: You entered the contest on the eve of your momma’s birthday.  How did you spend her birthday?
IZ: After she went to school, my momma had a few family friends over… and guess what they played? Cards! Which meant that I got to come out the whole time and greet everyone, too! I didn’t get any of the chocolate cake, though, but my momma did make me my own special dessert out of veggies!

HH: Describe your likes and dislikes.
IZ: As far as food goes, I am a pretty picky eater. I LOVE sunflower seeds and corn, but my momma says they aren’t very good for me, and I don’t often get them. Any type of nuts are pretty good- the ones I’ve tried at least- but those pellets in my food are nasty! I never eat those. I’m not much of a chewer. I nibble on stuff just enough to keep my teeth in nice shape, but otherwise, I don’t want to ruin the furniture in my bins! Why waste perfectly good houses? Besides, if I destroyed all of my houses, it would be harder to get as close to possible to my momma when I want to come out. Usually, I climb to the very highest point in my cage possible and then stand on my hind legs and beg for some time with her! It works, too, because I know she can’t refuse such a cute face!

HH: Anything else you would like to say to our readers?
IZ: I just want to thank you all for being such great hamster owners! I know that I appreciate having such a caring parent, and I’m sure that all of your hammie kids do, too. Just because we are small, doesn’t meant that we aren’t worth a big amount of attention.
